Makahiki 2008
The home stretch...
The Makahiki is heading into the last months and there are many interesting battles going on. The Big Island’s Cho brothers Andy and Steve have launched up the standings and are now eyeing the leaders. Andy now holds the AH record for white ulua at 72lbs and shibi at 49lbs! The Uyeda Brothers Kevin and Gareth of Wahiawa do things a little different. Paddling on a tandem named “The Green Lady of Wahiawa” they have managed the tournaments largest onos of 45 lbs, 49 lbs and the AH record of 58lbs. Speaking of onos, Dave Elgas aka Boogie D from Oahu’s North Shore pulled in his own prize a 53lb ono, Boogie has held scored some awesome fish this year including the tournaments lone Trifecta when he caught a mahimahi, shibi, and ulua on one trip. Aquahunter TEAM members Craig Colburn and Mike Ichiyama have steadily picked up fish this season. Craig has an 18lb uku to add to his resumes along with a number of mahimahis and kawakawas. Also, Mike boasts the tournaments only double ono day and the tournaments biggest mahi, a 32 lb bully. Battling up the charts are Maui’s Jesse Johnston, Big Islands Dan Roudenbush, and Adam “Trout” Traubman of Kailua.
It is also safe to say that Kaleo AhSam has locked up the OC-1 division with four ukus and a mahi and is just a few catches from breaking into the top ten overall.
