Aquahunters caught up with a few more of our top Makahiki finishers to see what they have been up to in the off season and what they have done to prepare for this coming tournament. Check out the Q and A sent in by Big Islands Devin Hallingstad, Mauis Bryce Hanada, and Oahus Ho'ala Greevy!

Devin Hallingstad- Makahiki Pro 2011 3rd place
Bryce Hanada- Makahiki Pro 2011 5th place
Ho'ala Greevy- Makahiki Pro 2011 7th place

In regards to kayak fishing what have you been doing this offseason and are you ready for Makahiki 2012?

Devin: Training for next season and working out so i can lift the big ones.
Bryce: Not doing much fishing in the off season, but did make some trips and got a couple onos and bottom fish...What? Makahiki already, man that was fast! Going get ready now !
Ho'ala: Getting some rest and then getting bigger gear.

What kind of equipment have picked up/made this off season?

Devin: Nothing everythings has been working.
Bryce: Haven't picked up anything new but I'm thinking it's time for some lever drags...love them Toriums but lever drags make life so much easier. Maybe a late Christmas present to myself..hehe.
Ho'ala: Bigger paddle, bigger rudder from Metalman, and a second bigger reel.

Even with all your past success in the Makahiki, where do you look to improve this coming season?

Devin: Landing more onos  and turning misses in to fishes.
Bryce: Looking to be more consistent and getting fish with some size.
Ho'ala: Raising my PPT average (Points Per Trip)!

What other angler(s) do you think will be turning heads this season?

Devin: Ho'ala because hes been killing da marlins!
Bryce: Mr. Cho has been killin' it since the start and he still impresses the heck out of me! I think Aloha will give the Pros a good run, brotha had some very nice catches last year.
Ho'ala: The usual suspects come to mind in the Pro division.  The Rec division should be exciting, I'm looking forward to seeing who comes out of the woodwork to win it.

Stay tuned form more Aquhunters Q&A in the coming weeks!
